Daily Wordle-style word of the day: how the challenge works and how to keep your streak

Wordly team · Roghan Games · October 20, 2026

The daily challenge is the heart of Wordly: one new word a day, the same for everyone playing in the same language. Many players have questions about the details, such as when it changes, what counts toward your streak or what happens if you miss a day. This guide explains it all.

One word a day, in each length

There is a separate daily challenge for each word length: 4, 5, 6 and 7 letters. Each one has its own word of the day and its own statistics. You get 6 tries, and the word is the same for every player in that language and length, so you can compare results with friends without spoiling anything: the share text shows only colored squares, never the word.

When the challenge renews

The challenge changes at midnight in your device's time zone. If you leave the page open, it reloads by itself at the turn of the day, and the countdown on the result screen shows how long is left until the next one. Because it follows your device's clock, players in different time zones get the new word at different moments.

How the streak is counted

  • The streak counts consecutive days on which you solved the daily challenge. If you solve it today and tomorrow, it goes up to two.
  • Failing the challenge, or letting a day pass without playing, resets the streak. Your best streak ever is stored separately.
  • Only the daily challenge counts toward the streak. Endless mode has its own statistics and does not change the daily streak.
  • Each length (4, 5, 6 and 7) keeps its own statistics, so you can have different streaks in each one.

Missed a day? Play past days

The past-days page has a calendar with every challenge released so far. You can play a day you missed and the result is marked on the calendar. These games are for practice and for completing the calendar, but they do not change the streak or the statistics of the daily challenge.

Where your data is kept

Wordly does not ask for an account. Your games, statistics and the note that you have seen the rules are saved in your own browser. That means clearing the site's data or switching devices erases the history. So if your streak matters to you, always play in the same browser and device.

Tips to protect your streak

  1. Avoid clearing the site data in your browser: that is where your history and your streak are kept.
  2. Use endless mode to practice freely, with no risk to your streak.
  3. If you are short on time, the 4-letter size is usually the fastest to solve.
  4. Read the article on the best starting words and use a fixed opener: it saves a guess in almost every game.

Example: a week of streak

To understand how the streak is counted, follow a hypothetical week for a player in the 5-letter challenge.

  • Monday and Tuesday: solves both. The streak reaches 2.
  • Wednesday: solves again. The streak reaches 3.
  • Thursday: fails the challenge. The streak goes back to 0, but the best streak (3) stays saved.
  • Friday: missed the day and plays it later through past days. The result is marked on the calendar but does not change the streak.
  • Saturday and Sunday: solves both and starts a new streak, now at 2.

Common mistakes

  • Playing in different browsers. History is saved per browser, so the streak does not merge.
  • Clearing the site's data by accident. It erases your games and your streak.
  • Confusing past days with today's challenge. Past days do not change the streak.
  • Waiting for the word to change at another hour. The turn happens at your device's midnight.

Practice plan for this week

  1. Play the daily challenge at the same time each day to build the habit.
  2. Always use the same browser to keep your streak.
  3. If you miss, do not be discouraged: tomorrow's challenge starts fresh with a new word.
  4. Share the result with a friend and compare the paths to the answer.

Frequently asked questions about the daily challenge

Is the word the same for everyone?
Yes, within the same language and length. That lets you compare results with friends without revealing the word, because the share text shows only the colored squares.
Can I see yesterday's answer?
Yes. The past answers page lists challenges that are already over. The answer of the day never appears there, so nothing gets spoiled.
What if I travel to another time zone?
The challenge changes at midnight in your device's time zone. When you change zone, the day may turn at a different moment, and the streak follows the local date.
Can I play again after solving?
The daily challenge counts once. To play more, use endless mode, which has its own statistics.
